RCSL at the 2027 ISA World Congress: Call for Sessions

While finalizing the preparations for its 2026 Meeting in Santiago de Chile, RCSL is pleased to begin preparations for its participation in the XXI ISA World Congress of Sociology, which will take place in Gwangju, Korea, from 4 to 10 July 2027, under the theme “Global Sociology in Turbulent Times.”

As a first step, we invite RCSL WG Chairs and other interested RCSL Members to submit session proposals by 25 June 2026.

The Gwangju Congress theme, “Global Sociology in Turbulent Times,” is closely related to current concerns in the sociology of law. It also connects well with the theme of the 2026 RCSL Meeting, “The Democratic Rule of Law in World Society,” and with Gwangju’s history as a site of democratic struggle. This makes the Congress a valuable opportunity for RCSL to reflect on law, democracy, and social change in turbulent global contexts.

The Gwangju Congress will also provide an excellent occasion to connect RCSL’s global and comparative orientation with socio-legal scholarship in Korea and East Asia.

The submitted proposals will help shape the RCSL programme in Gwangju and will provide the basis for the later call for individual paper abstracts.

Session proposals should be submitted through the ISA online system. The deadline for session proposals is 25 June 2026. ISA deadlines are strict and should not be expected to be extended.

Further information about the RCSL programme in Gwangju, including the call for abstracts, registration process, and possible travel grant information, will be published in due course on this website.
